Franchise Information
DSN's official guide to our Microfranchise programme - what it is, who qualifies, what it costs, what it pays, and how the application process works.
Program Overview
A DSN Microfranchise is a non-exclusive, recurring fee franchise built for delivery professionals. It gives you a personal trackable code, a monthly supply of marketing materials, and access to one or more lines of commission, layered onto the delivery route you already run.
It is a genuine franchise relationship, not employment. You apply and once approved, you hold your own franchise with your own code and your own commission history, for as long as you keep it active.
| DSN provides | You provide |
|---|---|
| The DSN brand and franchise licence | Your existing delivery route and activity |
| Application handling and recurring billing | A few seconds per stop to post the materials supplied |
| Your trackable code and referral assets (QR code, links) | Introductions of suitable local businesses and drivers, where applicable to your plan |
| Physical marketing materials, produced and delivered to you monthly | Compliance with the campaign and reporting guidance provided |
| Order, scan and payment tracking, visible in your account | — |
| Commission calculation support and monthly payment | — |
The franchise is not tied to any single employer. If you change delivery companies or depots, your code, your materials and your commission history move with you.
What it is not: DSN does not grant an exclusive or protected territory.
Why Join DSN
Gig work gave delivery professionals independence, but it had a ceiling: the money stopped the moment the driving did. A DSN franchise is built to remove that ceiling, without asking you to change how you work.
How it compares to a traditional franchise
| Traditional franchise | DSN Pilot Microfranchise | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical entry cost | Often tens of thousands of pounds | A fixed monthly fee, from £247 |
| Do you leave your job? | Usually, yes | No, it runs alongside your existing route |
| Premises | Usually required | None, materials fit in your van |
| Staff | Often required | None required |
| Stock | Often required | None held by you |
| What you learn | An entirely new business | Nothing beyond posting materials you're supplied |
DSN finds the advertisers, negotiates the terms, produces every booklet and leaflet, and runs the tracking that attributes every scan back to your code. Your part is posting the materials at stops you're already making.
Four income streams from the same stops
Every stop on your route already pays you once, through your delivery fee. A DSN franchise is designed to let the same stops pay you in up to three further ways, depending on your plan:
- Household commission - paid when someone scans your code from a posted booklet and orders.
- Commercial commission - paid monthly for as long as a business you introduced keeps advertising with DSN.
- Franchise sales commission - paid monthly for as long as a driver you introduced keeps their franchise active.
- Your delivery pay - unaffected, and entirely outside of DSN. This is the income you already earn from your delivery company and is not part of the franchise; it's included here only to show the complete picture of what a route can pay.
Because franchise sales commission is recurring and stacks with each active introduction, it compounds in a way that's worth showing directly. Using the Plus plan referral rate:
| Active drivers you've introduced | Monthly franchise-sales commission |
|---|---|
| 1 | £148 |
| 2 | £296 |
| 3 | £444 |
| 4 | £592 |
| 5 | £740 |
| 6 | £888 |
Each introduction adds to the last - none of the earlier ones stop paying when a new one is added, for as long as each introduced franchise stays active and trading.
Early evidence
DSN ran a field test involving 17 drivers. Six local advertisers were recruited during the test, and all six had agreed to renew by the time it ended. This is early stage evidence from a limited pilot group, and is included here as it's the best indication available so far of how the model performs in practice.
Franchise Plans & Fees
DSN offers three franchise tiers. Your plan determines your fixed monthly fee and which commission routes are switched on.
| Basic | Plus | Team | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly fee | £247 | £370 | £689 |
| Household commission | Included | Included | Included |
| Commercial commission | — | Included | Included |
| Franchise sales commission | — | Included | Included |
| Multi courier operation | — | — | Included |
| Materials and trackable code | Included | Included | Included |
Basic switches on a single commission route: household sales from the booklets you post.
Plus is our most selected plan and switches on all three commission routes for one recurring fee.
Team extends the Plus routes across a multi courier operation, for companies or contractors managing more than one driver. Because every team's structure is different, Team is handled through a direct conversation with DSN rather than the standard application.
The fee is fixed and disclosed upfront. Final VAT presentation and any future price changes remain subject to confirmation before they take effect, and any change will always be disclosed clearly in advance.
Earning Potential
| Commission route | Rate | Frequency | Included in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Household | Up to 40%, confirmed at application | Per qualifying order | Basic, Plus, Team |
| Commercial | Up to 40%, confirmed at application | Recurring, for as long as the advertiser remains active | Plus, Team |
| Franchise sales | 40% of the introduced franchisee's qualifying monthly fee | Recurring, for as long as the introduced franchise remains active | Plus, Team |
A commission of up to 40% is made available across every plan DSN offers. Commercial and franchise sales commissions are structured to recur monthly for as long as the underlying relationship, the advertiser's campaign or the introduced franchise, stays active. Household commission is paid as each qualifying order comes in; because a booklet keeps working long after it's posted, this income can also continue arriving weeks or months after the original delivery.
On projections and guarantees. Earnings depend on the number of qualifying orders, sign ups and introductions your materials generate, and they will vary between franchisees, routes and months. The binding commercial terms of your franchise are always those set out in your signed franchise paperwork.
Eligibility
Minimum requirements
- You deliver to residential addresses: houses, flats or estates as part of your normal work.
- You are actively delivering most days of the week, typically across 50 to 200 stops.
- You can provide the identity, contact and address information requested on the application, since materials are posted directly to you.
- You are able to accept and follow the campaign and reporting guidance DSN provides.
DSN franchises are open to drivers working with any delivery company or courier operator: DPD, Amazon, Evri, DHL, Yodel, Royal Mail, or an independent firm. Which company you drive for does not affect eligibility.
Is this the right fit for you?
| This is likely a good fit if you: | This probably isn't the right fit if you: |
|---|---|
| Want a second income that runs alongside your existing job | Are planning to leave delivery work - the franchise depends on an active route |
| Can spare a second or two per stop to post one item alongside a parcel | Want the posting done for you. DSN supplies the materials, but you post them |
| Are comfortable receiving and carrying a monthly materials box | Would rather not manage a monthly box, even a small one |
How eligibility is confirmed
Every application is reviewed individually. DSN may approve, request further information, or decline an application. This exists to protect the quality of the network for every franchisee in it, and most eligible applicants move through review without difficulty.
If any part of your situation is unusual: a mixed role, a recent change of depot, part time hours etc, it's still worth applying. DSN would rather talk it through directly than have you rule yourself out by guessing.
How the Program Works
- Materials arrive. One batch a month, sorted and ready to go. Flat and light enough for the footwell of your van.
- You post them on your route. A booklet through a letterbox where you're already delivering, a leaflet left with a business parcel, or a leaflet handed to a fellow driver.
- The recipient scans your code. Every item carries your personal QR code, so the offer, sign up or franchise opportunity shown is always attributed to you.
- The order, sign up or introduction is recorded. It appears in your DSN account immediately, and the resulting commission is calculated and paid out monthly.
Because your code is unique and tied to your account, attribution is never ambiguous. Whatever is ordered against it is recorded under your name automatically.
Support Provided by DSN
- Sourcing and negotiating the offers that go into every booklet.
- Designing, printing and producing all household, commercial and franchise sales materials.
- Generating and issuing your personal trackable code and QR assets.
- Running the tracking system that attributes every scan, order and introduction back to you.
- Calculating and paying out your commissions monthly.
- Reviewing every application personally before a franchise is activated.
You are not required to design materials, negotiate with advertisers, or build any tracking of your own. Your role is limited to posting or handing over the materials you're supplied.
Application & Approval Process
- Choose a plan - Basic, Plus, or Team.
- Complete the application - providing the identity, address and delivery activity details requested.
- Set up your recurring payment - through DSN's payment provider. No raw card details are ever stored by DSN.
- Application review - every application is checked before approval. Payment does not itself activate a franchise.
- Approval and franchise issuance - once approved, your franchisee record, subscription and stable trackable code are created, and any applicable introducer relationship is linked.
- Sign your franchise paperwork - this is the agreement that sets out the binding terms of your franchise.
- Materials dispatched - your first batch is prepared and sent to your registered address.
Legal & Important Information
- Self employed status. As a franchisee you work for yourself, not as an employee of DSN. Your delivery job continues exactly as it is. Franchise income is your own and must be declared on your self-assessment tax return, alongside any other income earned outside your main employment.
- Non exclusive territory. No DSN franchise includes an exclusive or protected geographic area.
- Binding terms. The legally binding terms of your franchise are those contained in the paperwork you sign as part of approval, and that agreement takes precedence over anything summarised here.
